Since this journal is due before 10 minute plays happens, this is a recap of what we have done so far for this devisement piece. We decided we wanted this to be about stereotypes that men and society place on women. After talking about our experiences we started to decide on some stereotypes we wanted to use. Some of those were the bossy girl that comes off too strong, the girl that dresses “only for men”, and the 2-faced girl that never means what she says. We started devising the class period after deciding the stereotypes. We began with a spiral out into a line. Someone suggested we try that and we all liked it so we decided to start our piece with that. We decided to continue by having each person say a line that corresponds with their stereotype. After playing around with a bunch of different ideas we found a rough outline of how we wanted our piece to go. Spiral out → everyone says a line that corresponds to their stereotype →Everyone starts overlapping with their lines and it gets louder and more chaotic →the advertiser yells for us to stop →Everyone goes through the line and says their truth and then shuts down. After going through it a couple of times we decided that it felt a lot like a creepy commercial and that we were all almost doll-like. We kinda shifted out direction to it being a creepy commercial selling dolls of women’s stereotypes. We also decided our intentions for the impact on the audience and it was to leave everything open. We chose this because we want the audience to walk away reflective and contemplative. We want everyone to be thinking about how this is how some men act and how it affects women and girls.
