Today we did an exercise that consisted of making puppets and then learning how to move them in a realistic way. We watched a video about the process of making puppets and how to do the breathwork and move the puppets.

Creating the puppets was an easy and straightforward process. It took about 5 minutes to create the puppets. Each puppet has a head, torso, arms, and legs. After creating the puppets, we watched a video about how to control the puppet’s breathing. To make the puppet look like it was breathing we held one hand at the bottom of the torso and another at the top and would press down and pull up on the top. This created a breathing-like effect. We then split into 2 groups and were tasked with doing an action with our puppet and having the other group guess what it was. My group went with jumping jacks. We decided to do a couple of jumping jacks and then have our puppet take a break and breathe heavily and then do a few more jumping jacks and then fall down out of exhaustion. This was a fun exercise because it needed a lot of collaboration, mainly in timing our movements and deciding on what we wanted to do. This exercise taught me a lot about puppetry and how difficult it can be.
